New series celebrates the stories behind the songs with intimate songwriter performances; supports local community

Sioux Falls, SD — [November 3, 2025] — Crazy Poet Records is introducing a new kind of live music experience in Sioux Falls. Writers Round is an intimate songwriter series celebrating the region’s most talented artists — and the stories that inspired their songs.

“Writers Round is about celebrating the art of songwriting and the people and stories behind the songs,” said David Pendery, CEO of Crazy Poet Records. “A great song doesn’t just sound good, it takes you on a journey. We wanted to create a space where those moments can happen right in front of you, where the story matters as much as the sound.”

Each session will feature a mix of Crazy Poet artists and other regional songwriters, giving audiences a fresh lineup every time. The series will continue roughly every six weeks with new combinations of artists and genres each round.

Hosted by Dave Holly, the first Writers Round takes place Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Phil’s (106 S. Indiana Ave., Sioux Falls, SD), featuring three standout songwriters: Keven Vermillion, Mat D and Nattie Jean. Together, they’ll share the stage, swapping songs and stories in a relaxed, acoustic setting that brings listeners closer to the music.

“Live music has always been part of Phil’s DNA, and as the new owners, we can’t wait to host the Writers Round,” said Grant Boes Co-Owner of Phil’s. “The bar has hosted hundreds of local artists over the years, and the Writers Round series is the perfect opportunity to let people hear the heart behind the music while supporting local talent and the community at the same time.”

In lieu of a cover charge, the event will collect cash or non-perishable food donations to benefit Feeding South Dakota (www.feedingsouthdakota.org).
